The Zend Framework is a collection of professional PHP-based packages and many components, like Console (to build console applications using getopt syntax or routing), Debug (safely dump debug information to HTML) and Module Manager (Modular application system for zend-mvc applications). The initial release was in 2006.
The framework is based on a software design pattern called a model-view-controller. The model is the central component of the pattern. A view is any representation of information, such as a chart or table. The controller accepts input and converts it to commands for the view or model. The different components can be used seperately.
The newest version of the Zend Framework is version 3. Zend Framework 3 runs up to 4 times faster than version 2-releases. The newest version is ready for PHP 7. It is recommended to migrate applications from Zend Framework 1 or 2 to version 3.
